Training/Institutes

Training Opportunities

On-site training is one of the most effective methods we provide. Two trainers, one of whom is usually Robin McWilliam, travel to your site and provide discussion-based workshops, using adult-learning principles. Participants engage in discussion of dilemmas, solve problems with consultation from the trainers, and participate in the case method of instruction. The goal of on-site training is to prepare learners to face real-world situations, as defined by learners, using principles and methods from the Routines-Based Model for Early Intervention Birth-5.
  • Costs involve airfare and lodging for each trainer and $7,500 per day for both trainers
Virtual training is available for an individual or agency at three levels:
  1. One-time overview of the model or a component of the model, for $1,500 (USD) for up to 4 hours;
  2. Multiple 2-hour sessions at $3,000 a session, with no post-training review, unlimited number;
  3. Multiple 2-hour sessions at $3,000 a session, with post-training review of video and written products at $300 per participant, limited to 20 participants
We will be offering four half-day webinars during the year (dates to be announced) for $450 per participant per webinar.
Implementation planning, preceding training, for $5,000, to organize a 4- to 5-year plan for adopting RBM practices.

Telecoaching

One-on-one telecoaching is available for any of the content areas of the Routines-Based Model (e.g., Routines-Based Interviews, Routines-Based Home Visits, Collaborative Consultation to Children's Classrooms). We can lend the equipment needed and provide either real-time (i.e., bug in ear) or follow-up feedback and guidance. Dr. Kimberly Tomeny is available to provide telecoaching to early intervention (0-3) professionals working with families on social communication strategies for children with autism. Contact us for fees for telecoaching.

Certification Institutes

We offer three certification institutes:
  • RBI Certification Institute
  • Routines-Based Home-Visiting Certification Institute
  • Collaborative Consultation to Children's Classrooms (CC2CC) Certification Institute
Beginning in 2023, institutes will be in person for 2-3 days, followed by recorded back-home practice, with feedback from institute coaches. In concert with evidence-based professional development (Dunst & Trivette, 2012), the following training methods are also used:
  • Case method of instruction (simulation)
  • Models of actual home visits or interviews, paired with discussion
  • Workshops
  • Practice with reflection (after the institute)
Certification for 3 years follows
  • Recording of practice to fidelity
  • Associated paperwork (e.g., RBI notes, Next-Steps Forms)
  • Passing the relevant test
Happy Child

Routines-Based Academy of Institutes
